Huawei E5372 4G Pocket WiFi

I recently celebrated my birthday and I promised to get myself something useful this time around. :) As a travel blogger, I need to be online all the time.

Sadly, we lost internet connection at home since tropical storm Trami (with local name of Maring) hit the Philippines back in August 2013. It's been months and local telcos still couldn't restore the connection due to location problems. I swear, if not having internet access makes you lose weight then I'd be sooo skinny by now. I'm literally internet-deprived for the past 9 months and it sucks.

To make the long story short, PH has the slowest internet not only in Southeast Asia but the whole universe. It's a fact! Anyway, so I've decided to finally get my own pocket WiFi just to keep me online all the time. Check out the Huawei E5372 4G pocket WiFi:
  • Creates a secure MBB WiFi hotspot wherever you are
  • Connects up to ten WiFi gadgets (tablets, laptops, gaming consoles etc) at the same time
  • Five second quick start 1780 mAh battery
  • Up to six hours working time / 300 hours standby
  • 1.45 inch LED screen displays battery consumption, network signal and mail alerts
  • Web User Inteface for Mobile WiFi settings and mails
  • Controllable via Huawei Mobile App (Android / iOS)
  • Available in white
My first choice (which is locally hard to find) is the Huawei E5776 that has 3000 mAh battery and download speeds of up to 150 Mbps but then I remembered that internet in Manila sucked big time so might as well get a different/lower model. The Huawei E5372 costs ₱5,300 from Gigahertz in SM Cyberzone (Megamall).

Sharing with you my speed test earlier in SM Aura and Acacia Estates, Taguig.

Please take note that I'm using a Smart 3G sim for my open-line pocket wifi. I actually preferred getting the unlocked unit so I could use it even if I'm out of country. So far so good, will post updates as soon as I get my LTE sim.

  3. I have a very important question regarding that model, I've been meaning to buy one but I'm afraid of the maximum 6 hours working mode. Now I'm at the office for about 10 hours, I don't usually use it for hours, I seem to use it for about 15 to 20 mins every hour, then proceed to to work again. So mostly I just leave my phone connected to the data. Now my question is, what does "working mode" really mean? Is it the time you only use your data? Or working mode includes ALL THE TIME the phone is connected to the mobile wifi? What is your experience on that? Basically, can I leave my phone connected to the mobile wifi for more than 6 hours, hopefully it will reach 10 hours as it is just connected on the device. Thank you.

  4. If I leave my phone and laptop just connected, how long will it last? Will leaving devices just connected considered working time or standby time? Im usually at the office for 10 hours, use my phone about 10 to 15 mins. Then just leave it connected. Thanks

    1. Hi Paul,

If I'm not mistaken this model has a power saving mode where it automatically goes on standby when not in used. Like any other mobile device, it will not last that long (10 hours straight) so you need to have your USB with you to connect it to your laptop/pc.

In my experience, the longest time the battery lasted was around 4 hours. That includes a bit of browsing in youtube plus non-stop use of waze app. It helps that I have a powerbank with me at all times so at least di ako na d-disconnect even when I'm out.

  5. I just want to know if how much is the price range of this model? And also if the sim card go with it or do I need to buy it separately? Since we live in Province (Cordon Isabela, Region 2). The internet providers said that they can not reach our place to connect us to internet cause its too far. That is why I am looking for better pocket wifi and so far this is my best choice. Thank you for sharing & hope to hear from you soon.

    1. Hi Jessica!

Last time I checked in Megamall they're selling this for Php5000 na lang. No sim cards when I bought the unit since this one is unlocked and did not come from Globe or Smart.

I suggest you compare muna the speed of Globe and Smart in your area. As for me here in Taguig, Metro Manila, mas ok ang Smart that's why I use my Smart sim for data purposes. ;)

  6. Hi! I was wondering if you've tried using it with an international sim. I'm heading out of the country for a two month backpacking trip and was hoping to get this unit. My plan is to get a local sim and connect for work and social media.

  7. Hi Meryl!

Yup, I've tried using it here in Sydney and so far so good. ;) If you're a heavy data user then I suggest you have a powerbank with you since it dies after 4 hours of continuous use.
